“One Verse Evangelism”
(Romans 6:23)
  • Keeping a Simple Message “Simple”
2
Concept
  • Explain the whole bible in ten minutes with a single verse (Romans 6:23)
  • Establish the need & process to experience God’s love
    • Wages (get what you deserve)
    • Sin (violation; missing the mark)
    • Death (separation: physical/spiritual)
    • Gift (something not earned)
    • Eternal Life (harmony with God)
    • Jesus Christ (the bridge)
  • Rely on the Spirit of God to change lives
3
The Opening
  • “Would you like to understand the basic theme of the Bible?  If interested, I can draw you a picture that explains all the 66 books in a practical way.”

  • “Please open your bible to Romans 6:23 and read aloud.”  While the listener reads, jot down the verse on a piece of paper or a restaurant napkin.

The Wages
  • A: Draw a box around the word Wages & write it midway down the left

  • Q: How would you define the term Wages?

  • How would you feel if your boss refuse to pay you the wages that are due you?

Passing Through the Bridge

“Pulling in the String”
  • Q: On the basis of what I’ve just explained, what must a person do to have relationship with God and have eternal life?
    • If he does not say Trust or Believe, go back and explain until it is clear

  • If you were to place yourself on the bridge, where will you be?

  • Is there any reason why you would not trust God for forgiveness right now and begin a close relationship with God and receive eternal life?

  • C: If the person is ready to admit his need for forgiveness, help him to pray using his own words

  • Remind him that he is saved because he put his trust in Christ not because of how or what he prayed

  • You may say a simple prayer together!
14
Advantages of Using The Tool
  • Short and effective
    • Crucial especially when time is limited
  • Expandable. Examples are optional
  • Easy for listener to understand
  • Easy to learn and use
    • Only 1 verse to memorize
  • No need to flip bible pages back and forth
  • Gives opportunity to assess listener’s understanding of the bible
15
Conclusion
  • Don’t let us make a simple message difficult

  • Remember, the power to change lives is not in the illustration
    • It is the Spirit of God that opens the heart to hear and respond

  • Read John 6:63-65

  • “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. 64But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him. 65And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.”
